FIYAGAMI is a portable firepit intended to fit inside a backpack and be light enough that you don't second guess packing it. This design allows campfires to be had virtually anywhere, by eliminating the hassle of traditional fire pits.

FIRE PITS

image3_edited.jpg
When I began researching the market competition, there were products of various shapes and sizes, trying to solve the same problem I was. However, most of them are still large and clunky, with the exception of the firepit in the center.  There are many design flaws in these fire pits, SAFETY being the biggest one.

While there are protective handles on the market that are incredibly heat resistant (~500F), NONE protect the user from the flame and heat below.

DESIGN PROCESS

DESIGN PROCESS

SKETCHES FIRE PIT

I began exploring ways to collapse a firepit and while keeping it super compact. Through simple mechanisms and geometry I was able to find the form that was optimal for the design.

SKETCHES GRILL

The grill needed to be simple, compact, and structurally sound. Additionally, the grill needs to accompany the firepit as a functional, and aesthetic, feature. Exploration of simple geometries and expanding mechanisms inspired the design direction for the grill.

SKETCHES HANDLE

Lastly, the hande for cooking pots and pans has to be robust, highly function, all while accenting the form of the firepit and grill. Fencing sword handguards inspired the design direction of the handle.
