"Protecting the health of crew members from the effects of microgravity is crucial for the success of future long-duration space missions."
-NASA
BACKGROUND

SpaceX has intentions of long term space travel and even habituation on the Moon and Mars. While there are many obstacles, a condition called SANS, is a major factor from preventing long term space travel.
WHAT IS S.A.N.S. ?
S.A.N.S is a condition that astronauts encounter while in space. The lack of gravity causes blood and cerebrospinal fluid to shift and rise to the head. This rise in fluid pressure causes astronauts eyes to change shape leading to blurred vision. (NASA)

How can we provide and maintain eye health while travelling in space?
SOLUTION

SANSADE
DEVELOPMENT

A major challenge was finding a form that space travelers could wear for extended periods of time without any discomfort.
Additionally, astronauts thrive on paying attention to detail in space, so I wanted to provide a visor that would not inhibit peripheral vision.
The leg sleeve is a vital piece of the SANSADE system. I wanted to provide as much comfort as possible for the space travelers.
Since the leg sleeve is intended to be worn most of the day, I decided a more distributed load would provide the most comfort under compression.
Lastly, consistency in brand language was important as well. Sweeping chamfers are a common theme in Space X's brand language, so I made sure to make emphasis of that to ensure this product feels like a continuation of the brand.

Low fidelity prototypes were created to explore size and comfort.
